POST-BASIC PHARMACIST ASSISTANT | SANDTON

A reputable and well-established veterinary hospital is seeking a qualified Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented and organised individual who is passionate about pharmaceutical care within the veterinary environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for dispensing medication under supervision, managing pharmacy inventory, maintaining regulatory compliance, and providing support to the veterinary team to ensure the efficient operation of the hospital pharmacy. As this is a newly established role, there is an opportunity to grow with the position as the practice continues to evolve.

The role

Dispense and label veterinary medications under the supervision of a Veterinarian or Pharmacist.
Manage pharmaceutical inventory, including ordering, receiving, unpacking, stock rotation, and expiry date monitoring.
Maintain accurate inventory records using EzyVet and CUBEX systems.
Operate and manage the CUBEX automated dispensing system, including stock replenishment and discrepancy investigations.
Process prescription orders, update patient records, and manage billing within EzyVet.
Monitor and maintain cold-chain storage requirements for vaccines and temperature-sensitive medications.
Supply medications, scheduled drugs, and consumables to veterinary wards and theatres as required.
Ensure compliance with South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) regulations and all applicable legislative requirements.
Maintain accurate records for scheduled medicines and pharmacy activities.
Provide medication to pet owners together with clear instructions regarding dosage, administration, and storage.
Work closely with Veterinarians, Veterinary Nurses, and Hospital Management to support the smooth operation of the pharmacy.
Perform additional reasonable duties as required to support hospital operations.

Minimum requirements

Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a Qualified Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant.
Previous experience within a dispensary, pharmacy, stock control, or clinical environment will be advantageous.
Strong computer literacy with the ability to learn new software quickly. Experience with EzyVet and CUBEX will be highly advantageous.
Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary veterinary team.
