An established and reputable franchise practice in the beautiful Somerset West area is seeking a passionate and patient-focused Optometrist to join its professional team.

The practice is committed to delivering high-quality eye care in a supportive retail-clinical environment where clinical excellence, teamwork and an outstanding patient experience are at the heart of everything they do. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build meaningful patient relationships while providing personalised care and comprehensive optometric services.

Given the demographic of the practice, the successful candidate must be fluent in Afrikaans. A significant portion of the patient base is Afrikaans-speaking, making confident, professional and compassionate communication in Afrikaans an essential part of providing a comfortable and personalised patient experience.

The role

  • The successful Optometrist will be responsible for:
  • Conducting comprehensive eye examinations and driver screenings
  • Assessing ocular health and identifying refractive and binocular vision abnormalities
  • Prescribing corrective lenses, therapies and medication where appropriate
  • Advising patients on lens options, coatings and suitable eyewear solutions
  • Performing contact lens fittings and providing ongoing aftercare
  • Maintaining accurate patient records while ensuring strict confidentiality
  • Working closely with the front-line and dispensing teams to create a seamless patient journey
  • Keeping up to date with CPD requirements, clinical developments and advances in optometric care

Minimum requirements

  • The practice is looking for an Optometrist who:
  • Holds a Bachelor of Optometry degree
  • Is registered with the HPCSA
  • Has strong clinical and diagnostic abilities
  • Is professional, empathetic and an excellent communicator
  • Has a genuine patient-first approach and strong attention to detail
  • Works confidently under pressure and enjoys being part of a team
  • Has good computer literacy and sound administrative skills
  • Is passionate about delivering exceptional patient care and contributing positively to the practice culture
  • While 1–3+ years of clinical experience is preferred, motivated new graduates with strong clinical and interpersonal skills will also be considered.
  • Afrikaans is Essential
