INLAND SALES MANAGER | GAUTENG based

Responsible for driving sales growth and managing key accounts across the inland region for a global leader in premium ophthalmic lenses and optical solutions. The role combines clinical expertise with commercial acumen to promote and support a portfolio of internationally recognised lens and eyewear brands to Eye Care Professionals. In addition to managing strategic customer relationships and business development initiatives, the position requires leadership and performance management of a sales team of approximately 10 representatives, ensuring the achievement of regional sales targets and the delivery of exceptional customer service. Key responsibilities include developing new markets, implementing sales and marketing strategies, delivering product and business training, providing technical support on lens products and dispensing solutions, and coaching team members to maximise performance. The role also involves close collaboration with sales, marketing, and commercial teams on forecasting, reporting, product launches, and customer support initiatives while keeping clients informed of the latest optical technologies, industry developments, and practice-enhancing solutions.

The role

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of approximately 10 sales representatives, driving performance and professional development.
  • Drive regional sales growth and achieve revenue targets across a portfolio of premium ophthalmic lens and optical brands.
  • Manage and grow key accounts by building strong relationships with Eye Care Professionals, retail groups, and strategic customers.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities, markets, and growth initiatives within the assigned region.
  • Deliver product, clinical, and business training to optometrists, dispensers, and retail staff.
  • Provide technical support and guidance on lens products, dispensing solutions, and non-adapt management.
  • Implement sales and marketing strategies, promotions, and product launches to maximise brand awareness and market penetration.
  • Collaborate with commercial, marketing, customer service, and sales excellence teams to enhance customer experience and business performance.
  • Monitor sales performance, prepare forecasts, and provide accurate territory and management reporting.
  • Support customers with ordering processes, account queries, service-related matters, and operational requirements.
  • Plan and facilitate workshops, in-store training sessions, conferences, and industry events.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, lens technologies, and professional developments to ensure customers receive the highest level of support and expertise.
  • Represent a global leader in premium ophthalmic lenses and optical solutions, maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and customer service.

Minimum requirements

  • Minimum 7 years' experience in the optical or pharmaceutical industry, within either a retail or wholesale environment
  • Proven experience managing and leading a sales team of approximately 10 representatives
  • Demonstrated success in sales, business development, and key account management
  • Matric certificate essential
  • Diploma or Degree in Sales Management essential
  • Diploma in Optics or Optometry advantageous
  • Strong understanding of optical lenses, lens design, and clinical applications
  • Experience presenting and training Eye Care Professionals, dispensers, and retail staff
  • Excellent sales, negotiation, presentation, and relationship-building skills
