Clinical Assistant

We are looking for a warm, mature and dependable Clinical Assistant to join a busy ophthalmology practice in Pretoria East. This role would suit someone who is organised, professional and enjoys working with people, particularly patients who may need a little extra reassurance and care. The position involves a combination of administrative and patient-facing responsibilities, including preparing reports, managing paperwork, answering phone calls, capturing patient histories and ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the practice. On the clinical side, the main responsibility will be measuring patients’ visual acuity (VA) before they proceed to the doctor for the remainder of their examination.

We are looking for someone fluent in Afrikaans with good communication skills, a calm and confident manner, strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently while being a supportive member of the team. Previous experience in an Ophthalmology practice would be an advantage, but above all, we value a caring attitude, reliability, professionalism and a genuine interest in making patients feel comfortable and well looked after.

Working hours: Monday to Friday 08:00 - 17:00.

The role

Welcoming patients and ensuring a warm, professional and caring experience.
Answering incoming phone calls and assisting with patient enquiries.
Managing appointments and general administrative duties.
Preparing, capturing and organising reports and patient documentation.
Taking accurate patient histories and updating patient records.
Measuring patients’ visual acuity (VA) before they proceed to the ophthalmologist for further examination.
Ensuring patient files and medical records are accurate and up to date.
Assisting with the smooth day-to-day running of the practice.
Maintaining patient confidentiality and professional standards at all times.
Providing general support to the ophthalmologist and the practice team as needed.

Minimum requirements

Fluent in Afrikaans
Experience in an Ophthalmology practice
