Growing and building a career can be as straightforward or as complicated as we make it for ourselves.
Here are a few points that will help you to continuously grow and create a name for yourself in the industry.
Continuous Education
Everyone is up to date with their CPD points but - is this enough?
In my opinion, No. You are growing with the crowd and not excelling above the rest. Look at a few things in your industry that is often overlooked but can add significant value to your patients and the practice.
Make this a priority and gain knowledge and implement and perfect this in the workplace.
Work Ethic
Your name is all you have. Someone with a great work ethic who is always willing to go the extra mile is invaluable to any employer. Look out for those who “job hop”. There is a reason for that.
Remember the industry is smaller than you think.
Team Player
There is nothing as destructive in the workplace as someone who is always pulling in another direction. A non-team player can lead to unproductiveness and loss of income in the workplace.
You often spend more time at the workplace than at home. Get to know your teammates, build on their strengths, and help them to improve on their weaknesses.
Communication Skills
Communication is of the utmost importance. You need to be able to converse and communicate in writing to your clients, patients, and colleagues. Be concise in your instructions and ensure that if you receive an instruction, you are clear on what is expected of you.
Dress the Part
Ensure that you dress to be noticed. Your appearance should be professional and industry appropriate. Clients and patients should be able to quickly identify the person in charge by the way they dress and handle themselves.
Enjoy the benefits of a career that is growing and benefitting you in the long run.
